Dead Poets?
Mr. Keating keeps his students guessing and gives tells them that all their professional goals maybe noble, but what do they live for, do it for? He says for beauty, love, poetry, well, this is certainly part of being made in the image of God. This movie does not get into grace and prayer using those specific terms, but it does show a teacher that knows who he is and where he wants to take his students. Grace is radical, and disruptive (p. 49-51) like Mr. Keating's teaching style, it gives us the room to grow as free, creative thinkers that we don't deserve and that the systems fights. Understanding ourselves means knowing we are God's image bearers, new creations, and called to be teachers. This identity, an act of God's grace, gives us confidence to give the grace of undeserved, non-required lessons on life.
